Tulasi / Basil is a famous medicinal plant, the leaves of which are used to treat cough, cold, sore throat, nasal congestion and fever, eliminate infections and boost up immunity.
Hot rice or roti and dal is a great combination. Here goes a quick recipe, do try it sometime:
Ingredients:
Basil leaves: 10-15 leaves
Tur Dal – 100 – 150gms
Curry leaves: 8-10 leaves
Coriander powder – 1/2tsp
Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
Jeera / cumin seeds: 1/2 spoon
Garlic paste – 1/4 tsp
Olive/sunflower oil – 3tsp
Sliced Onion – 1
Green chilli – 2
Red chilli: 2
Salt: to taste
Mustard seeds: 1/2 spoon
Method:
1. Soak tur dal in 300ml water for half an hour and pressure cook along with tuermeric and 1tsp oil for 20mins and keep a side.
2. In a wide pan, add boiled dal, green chilli, chopped basil leaves and coriander powder and salt to taste. Another 50ml water can be added.
3. Cover with a lid and cook on a low to medium flame until the basil leaves gets softened.
4. Heat 2 tsp oil on a tadka pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and fry until they turn golden brown. Add sliced online, curry leaves, red chilli, Garlic (optional) and fry until golden brown.
5. Pour the seasoning over dal and serve with hot rice / roti.
