Definition: When there is an excessive production of digestive enzymes (acids) by the gastric glands in the stomach, it gives rise to a condition known as acidity. In Ayurveda, it can be co-related to a condition known as Amla pitta, caused due to increase of pitta in the body due to improper food habits, spicy diet, regular smoking etc.

Symptoms:

  • Dyspepsia and burning sensation in the abdomen.
  • Feeling of abdominal discomfort
  • Indigestion and Sour belchings.

Definition:
Due to the excessive production of sebum or oil from the sebaceous gland, there is a formation of small puss filled cavity at the root of the hair follicles. This is known as acne. Acne is a common problem in the adolescent stage and hence Ayurveda names it as yauvana pidika(yauvana-adolescence;pidika-pustules).

Symptoms:

  • Usually presented on the face, back, shoulders and chest
  • As Blackheads,Whiteheads in milder forms of Acne
  • Red, inflammed and sometimes itchy and painful in the severe forms of acne

Treatments:

  • Panchakarma treatments include snehapana (intake of ghee or oil), Vamana (emesis), Virechana (purgation), Vasti (medicated enema) and in severe cases leech therapy or blood letting is done.
